Aberfeldy - the perfect centre of Scotland
Aberfeldy is a lovely little town nestling on the south side of the River Tay, almost bang in the middle of Scotland. The beautiful stone bridge which spans the river was built in 1733 and was a key factor in the village expanding over the years to what it is today.
Aberfeldy is well placed for reaching Crieff and Perth to the south and Tummel Bridge and Inverness to the north. Aberfeldy is also part of the 79 mile Rob Roy Way which passes through the village on its route from Drymen to Pitlochry.
The Black Watch Monument which was erected in 1887 overlooks the river and bridge, enjoying stunning views north west to the Glen Lyon and Ben Lawers hills.
The village square is the heart of Aberfeldy and offers visitors a wonderful range of shops, restaurants and accommodation. The towns’ industrial history ranges from cotton milling dating back to 1799 through to laundry and machine tool businesses in later years. Today of course, the distillery is a very interesting industry and visitor attraction.
Aberfeldy Distillery, named Dewars, has a wonderfully informative visitors centre known as Dewars World of Whisky, and is one of the best visitors centre’s in the country.
